When you think of the word “toxin,” it may conjure up images of big factories dumping chemicals into a pristine river and killing all the fish. It’s true that these are the external toxins we are exposed to from the environment - there are certainly plenty of them. But another less obvious source is through cellular respiration and metabolism, when our body produces its own toxins (endotoxins) that need to be eliminated. Internal biochemical reactions create toxins, but interestingly, so do psychological factors such as stress, depression, fear or negativity. Science has proven that the brain has a powerful influence on health, affecting the immune system, digestion and other systems. This is why we need to be mindful of our thoughts and use tools such as yoga and meditation to find mental peace.

Exotoxins are another battle we have to deal with regularly. The amount of chemicals we are exposed to from our environment is increasing at an alarming rate in this modern world, regardless of whether you live in an urban area or the countryside. There are chemicals in the air, water, cleaning products, processed foods, pesticides, beauty products, drugs, medications, alcohol and more.

Think about the amount of plastic packaging your food and water supply is exposed to. Plastics contain phthalates and BPA, known as xeno-estrogens, which have hormonal effects, causing problems such as early puberty and obesity. Building materials such as new carpeting, paint, adhesives and particle board emit many toxins. Toxin exposure seems to be entirely unavoidable; even the Inuit population in the remote Artic have high levels of contaminants in their tissues. So, moving to a remote destination is not the solution!

There are steps we can take to reduce the amount of toxins we are exposed to, which I will cover later and in The Rockstar Remedy, but clearly it isn’t possible to avoid them entirely. The most positive and productive action we can take is to support the liver and other systems of detoxification with a regular cleanse. If we don’t eliminate toxins as fast as we produce and absorb them, systems may malfunction. You may experience fatigue, poor digestion, weight gain, skin issues, hormone imbalances, insomnia, and potentially even more serious issues from toxin overload.

It sounds like doomsday! But don’t panic. My mission isn’t to scare you with this information, but hopefully increase your awareness of what is going on in our world. I believe knowledge is power and freedom. Now that you know the facts, you can decide to take steps to protect yourself with some healthier habits and a powerful liver and detox system. You are in the driver’s seat now and can take control of your health. By doing the RxStar Remedy Detox, you can help all seven systems in your body to more effectively eliminate toxins.

Respiratory system: The lungs work through deep breathing, helping bring oxygen to tissues and exhaling out toxins.

  • We detox LUNGS by breathing exercises

Skin: The skin acts to protect us from toxins entering the body, and sweating is an effective exit for toxins. The skin is a reflection of what is going on inside; it’s a sure signal when there is toxin overload.

  • We detox the SKIN by sweating

Lymphatics: The lymph system flows alongside blood vessels and is the network for white blood cells acting as your immune system. It includes lymph nodes, which may swell when white blood cells are fighting off a microbe. Part of the lymph system intersects with the gastrointestinal tract, called GALT. GALT lines the inner passages of the body from nose to colon. GALT is critical to help transport nutrients in and toxins out. Leaky gut syndrome is the result of weakened GALT, causing digestive issues, food sensitivities, and allergies. GALT also supports good health by preventing pathogens from entering the blood stream.

  • We detox the LYMPHATICS with massage and exercise
  • The GALT is repaired by the Detox Smoothie

Blood and circulation: The lymph system interacts with circulatory system, where blood delivers oxygen to all tissues. The blood ultimately gets filtered through the liver.

    • We detox the BLOOD by exercise and herbal teas.

Kidneys: The kidneys filter out toxins and eliminate them via urine.

    • We detox the KIDNEYS by drinking filtered water and herbal teas.

Liver: The liver is the workhorse organ of detoxification. The liver uses enzymes and nutrients to break down toxins and send them on their way out of the body. If your body has a lot of toxins to contend with (which most do), then your liver is really working overtime and needs some help. You may have heard of the terms “Phase I and Phase II pathways” related to detoxification. These pathways are the two major steps that the liver performs to first destabilize and then bind toxins. Phase I and II pathways require plenty of specific antioxidant nutrients to keep chugging along. If those nutrients are in short supply, the process slows down and toxins start building up. Taking supplemental nutrients and minimizing toxin intake are the two best ways to support the liver.

Intestinal tract: The colon and large intestine collect toxins from the liver, gallbladder and lymph system, and eliminate them out of the body.

Now that you see how all the systems of the body are important to detoxification, you’ll be able to take simple steps to support each one. In the next chapters you can choose a detox program that fits in your life and plan what mind, body and lifestyle enhancements you want to make.
